So we can start the process of preparing volunteers for a placement overseas, we need all applicants to begin medical and criminal background checks. This will mean you have to provide some information in advance as well as bring some items with you on the day.
What you need to do in advance
- Complete online medical form
- Complete Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (online form)
- Read information about why we request certain information about you and how we protect it
1. Complete your medical form online
All ICS volunteers need to complete an online personal health form and submit this before attending their Assessment Day - this is only seen and reviewed by the VSO Medical Team.
If successful on your Assessment Day, you will need to be medically cleared by a VSO medical adviser before you can be matched to a VSO ICS placement.

2. Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
All VSO ICS volunteers need to have a police background check carried out by the DBS. To do this, start a new online application and follow this procedure.
Note - any typos, errors or omissions on this form will require you to re-do the form on your Assessment Day.

As an ICS volunteer, your safety and wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us. To make sure that we can keep you safe, and to ensure you have the best possible ICS experience, we ask you to share personal and private information about your health, support needs, alcohol and drug use and criminal convictions.
