ICS photography guidance

Your story is more likely to be published in your local media if you provide up to three images with your press release, in which you can be clearly seen.

Please upload your photos to Imgur or a similar file hosting site, and share the link in your press release.

Suitable photos

If you’re currently at the pre-departure stage, a few clear photos of yourself will be fine – even better if you’re wearing your ICS t-shirt or carrying out some fundraising activities!

If you’ve completed your ICS placement, you’ll probably have a lot of photos from your time overseas. Photos demonstrating your team’s work and impact are ideal to share with the media.

Unsuitable photos

ICS isn’t a holiday. It’s a sustainable development programme that makes a positive impact in developing countries. Please don’t share photos that might perpetuate negative ‘gap year’ stereotypes.

Examples:

Holiday or gap year-style shots

Captions

We need to know the names of individual people in your photos, unless it’s a big group shot.

Please caption each of your photos, giving people’s names and details of what the photos shows. You can do this easily on Imgur.

Consent

If there are other people in your photos, ensure you have their consent to share them and that they understand these images may appear in the media.

If you have any questions about consent, please speak to your ICS agency before sharing your photos with the media.
